 Protomodernism 25 February 2023 Protomodernism was all about rejecting the old and coming up with new and unique ways to go about design and art. The design movement started in Germany. The movement that first catapulted the protomodernism era was the Deutscher Werkbund movement. This specific movement originated in Munich Germany by Herman Muthesis.   The purpose of this movement and the protomodernism era was to create designs and furniture that were good quality, but find a way to mass produce them. The picture to the left is part of the Deutscher Werkbund movement called the Werbund Exhibition. The design was used to go against the established design and to use more machines instead of hand-crafted materials to construct these types of structures and buildings.  Art Nouveau- pt 2 11 February 2023 Due to the rise in new and faster ways of transportation and new travel design styles were able to be quickly learned and adapted by different countries. Art Nouveau was known to be first seen in Europe however the style was quickly adapted by the United States.  Art Nouveau looked different in America than how it did in Europe, however, the two places still had similar characteristics.  When learning about Art Nouveau more in depth two designers come to mind. Louis Comfort Tiffany and Louis H. Sullivan.  Art Nouveau 4 February, 2023 Art Nouveau is known to be a type of design that came from the British. The term Art Nouveau is meant to mean "new art". This movement effects most of Europe, however, also had an influence in western cultures too. When you think of Art Nouveau, curves, colors, and whimsical design comes to mind. Part of the reason for the playful-like design is because of the rejection of the design era before which was the Victorian era.  In the image above you can see one of the main characteristics of the Art Nouveau style, which is curves. The detail put into the style can be showcased in the many curves and turns to manipulate the space and turn the room or surrounding area into what the designer wants.  The image above is an example of Art Nouveau architecture in Spain.
